Town and Villages : €300,000

July 2025 through Dec 2025
Minister Dara Calleary has announced funding allocations for the Town and Villages Renewal Scheme for 2025.  The Elphin Development Group is delighted to share the news that Elphin has been third time lucky in terms of our applications and the village has been awarded €300,000 for various streetscape and painting improvements including façade and lighting upgrades, enhanced landscaping, improved signage, and preservation of heritage assets to enrich the town’s visual and cultural identity. We look forward to engaging the community groups/community members to help execute on the award.  We are appreciative of the support from Roscommon County Council on this application and we will share more information in time through

Leader funding : €30,000

July 2025 through Dec 2025

We are delighted to received funding from LEADER to allow us complete the final two elements of the business analysis. This analysis will include architectural work to help bring the vision to life in visual terms and it will also include further feasibility analysis in terms of income, expenditure, costs, etc.,

We aim to start work in Jan 2026 with consultants Venture International and Kenny Lyons Architects on these elements

Just transition fund

August 2024 through Jan 2025

Applied for Just transition funding to complete our business analysis.  But despite presenting a very strong case we were  disappointed to have not been successful in our application

Initial business analysis element

Jan 24 through Mar 11, 2024

Initial feasibility element kicked off on Jan 24 with Venture International.  Results were presented to Roscommon CoCo executives on March 11.  421 schools within an 80km distance from Elphin were polled. 62 responded.  90% stated that their school would visit 1-2 times a year..  So one market looks very feasible - schools.

'Podify' focus group

July 12, 2023

A focus group from across the community attended a focus group experiment to come up with additional Pods. Each Pod includes a model, a game and an educational element. In 20 minutes groups came up a Pod theme each including building tech evolution and the guild of jewelers

Accommodation for  Preschool

June 6, 2023

We worked with the Preschool Committee representatives to secure alternative accommodation while the Community Center building upgrade is to be delivered. We shared with them the vision for the BHGS sites again and encouraged their support for it as set out in the consultative report from June 1.

SURVEY AND CONSULTATION RESULTS

May 26 & June 1, 2023

We have received the results of the consultative review of the survey on May 26th and we shared the results in a public meeting in the Community center on June 1st. The main finding was that community would benefit greatly from the proposed vision and the main steer was to avoid displacing going concerns.

FUNDRAISING WORKSHOP

May 10, 2023

Members attended the offices of the comhairle in Roscommon to learn of upcoming funding schemes. The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is set to open in the summer with provision for feasibility study support for up to €50,000.  We are preparing to apply for this and to also re-apply for the enhancement fund to which we were unsuccessful last year. FAILTE IRELAND JUST TRANSITION FUND  OF €68,000,000

May 9, 2023

Members of the committee attended a briefing in Roscommon regarding the Just Transition Fund. We provided survey input on behalf of Elphin Development Group.  It is expected that funding of the order of €50,000 for feasibility will be awarded through this scheme.  We are preparing to submit for feasibility funding. MEETING MINISTER HUMPHRIES

March 1, 2023

Valerie and Frank met Minister Humphries during her visit to the Hub.  Also present was Senator Eugene Murphy.  Frank gave a brief introduction to the Minister regarding the Elphin Development Group and what we hope to achieve.  Her steer was that there is funding available - build strong submissions through the council.

SUBMISSION FOR €274,000 GRANT MADE.

June 17, 2022

We made a submission through Roscommon County Council through the Town and Villages fund for €274,000, comprising streetscape enhancement, Heritage site enhancements, approach sinage and landscaping.  We were ultimately unsuccessful in the application and raised our disappointment with the council who raised it with Minister Humphries. We will apply again in 2023

TRIP TO CASTLEREA

May 7, 2022

Members of the committee were hosted at the The Hub in Castlerea and at The Trintiy Arts Center.  We gained insights into how these projects got to be and how they operate.  They are a credit to the hard work of the community and the support of people and businesses in the area.

Elphin Development Group (EDG) is a local voluntary development group which, with the support of Roscommon Co Council, aims to provide facilities that will make the town a better place in which to live and visit. The survey closed with 100+ responses.  We are working on analysing the responses and will feed that into our plans
